I was listening to the radio this morning and the question came up as to why some wine ages well and why you can have wines three years in a row from the same vineyard and while some will last others will not
Some of you will know that Avenda and I spent 11 years in France and three of those were learning to make wine with a year at Chateau Beauséjour, Montagne St Emilion with my good friend Pierre Bernault.
A report was published yesterday of the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes in Ireland.
This was a shameful period in Irish history where being an unmarried mother was not allowed and dealt with by taking the mother and baby from their family and placed in a home run by religious orders.
At the end of last year I was asked to present an hour of music I like for the podcast Record Box Radio.
This is a spin off of From The Bottom Of The Record Box which is a music discovery podcast. They champion the under-represented, under-listened and misunderstood heroes of music with a few classics along the way. They have many podcasts and worth an hour of your time now and again to listen to great music.
Over his term as President, Mr Trump has shown himself to be unfit to hold court in a bar let alone the highest office in the land or as Eddie Izzard once said said ‘The leader of the free world, self-elected I might add.’
Well a lot has changed since my last post but then it’s been nearly 18 months since my last confession.
When on our travels I find it important to document where we have been and what we have been doing. Less so when we are back home. But the world is going through it’s own journey at a particularly dark time. Of course the darkest time of night is just before the dawn. So, it may be time to add a few words.
Between 2004 and 2007 I led hiking and biking trips in France, Switzerland and Ireland with Backroads, a San Francisco based active travel company. I had a great time and met some fantastic people.
So it was lovely to be back in Kenmare where the leader house was based for the Kerry and Cork trips.
Rebel 1 and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Clare and after a quick look at the map over a coffee we opted for Kerry rather than Galway.
The first time I brought Avenda to Ireland was in 1993. We had a 2CV and a 2 person pop up tent called Woomie. We were having a week’s trip before she met my family in Dublin for the first time.
After a fantastic five weeks in France we hopped onboard the ferry from Cherbourg to Rosslare.
